Prayers to the Mistress of Night Empty Prayers to the Mistress of Night

Post by Dia Thu Jan 04, 2024 9:21 am

The evening had been eventful for Aeryn'drada and Malaggar. They'd invited new friends to join them at their lakeside plot of land in the Underdark, and worked to pitch up tents for their guests. They insisted that Sylmare, their elven guest, not watch over them as they ate and rested; a duty the elf was reluctant of shirk.

Before turning in for the evening, the pair put out the fire, knelt down together while holding each other's hands, bowed their heads, and prayed to the Mistress of Night. Sylmare had earlier informed them of her prophesized duty to their Mistress, and it seemed clear what their own involvement in that prophecy would be. Yet, the elven girl was unknown to them beyond this first meeting. Could she be trusted? Was this life-changing duty theirs to bear? In their prayers they sought their mistress' guidance to these questions. They asked that she let her will be known.

Prayers to the Mistress of Night Empty Re: Prayers to the Mistress of Night

Silence filled the area during their prayer, not even the crackling of the wood being consumed by the fire could be heard.  This silence was soon met by a darkening of the illumination cast by the flames, until an empty blackness hung about the two.  No sound nor light was present and if it were not for their hands being previously united, they would be alone in this sea of darkness.  Soon after the birth of this sea of darkness, a woman's voice spoke, softly toned yet cold and emotionless were the words that came forth.

The voice spoke directly into their ears, the voice told them,  “It pleases me that you are not so naive to accept things so plainly.  In this case, though, it is the way it must be.  Therefore, you will impregnate the chosen mother and ensure the offspring survives until it is time for their purpose to be revealed.  This child is key to many things and with it you will rise and continue to prove yourself useful.  So it has been spoken, so it will be.”  Once silence returns, Malaggar feels a gentle caress to his face for a moment then it fades.  While you are unsure if this is -Her- or not, there is an overwhelming power to the voice that you cannot shake but accept its imposed will.

There is a long pause before the voice speaks again, though it seems pointed toward Aeryn'drada specifically as feels a hand upon her shoulder during the talking, “You will raise the child as your own and it will be your responsibility.  The birthing mother is a vessel and nothing more than a protector come forth whilst you will be its director and influencer.  Do as I will and you will reap what grows thereafter.”  Once more the silence returns and there is only darkness and then nothing.

Eventually the two awaken in each other's arms, nude though bound in blankets of their shared bedroll.  The others of their encampment, including Sylmare, can be seen down the way working on the crafts need to begin their structures here.  Judging by the amount of work you see, it has been possibly two or three days since you can last recall.  Though when looking into each other's you both can tell that it was spent affirming their alliance with one another in the best way possible and knowing they are now bound by a greater power to perform a great sacrifice and service.
